The pipe organ, built by Schlicker
Organ Company of Buffalo, New York, was installed in 1973. It
contained 19 stops with preparations for later additions. the initial
installation and tonal finishing were supervised by John DeCamp of Mill
Valley, California. Martin Pasi was engaged in 1002 to complete the
preparations needed to enlarge the organ and to carry out certain additional
modifications and refinements to enhance both the playing mechanism and
tonal characteristics of the organ. For the organist, friction within
the tracker key action was reduced, thus permitting a lighter and more
responsive touch.
Mr. Pasi also designed and carved
new "pipe shades" out of basswood to enhance the visual appearance of the
entire organ case. These carvings are based on the theme of "Tree of
Life". Carved pipe shades have been a customary part of organ building
since the 14th century, allowing the organ to offer both visual and auditory
images of the nature of the Divine.
Completed in 1933, the Schlicker/Pasi
organ as it now stands, has an even more beautiful and singing voice than
before, along with additional color and enhanced blend. The inherent
quality and integrity of the instrument will permit this organ to serve this
congregation's musical and worship needs very well for several generations
to come
