What is “Bread for the Journey”?

“BFJ”, as it is often referred to at our church, is a comprehensive ministry program on Wednesday evenings that involves about 150 people in activities ranging from choir rehearsals to AA meetings.

The core of the evening is spent in a variety of activities for PRLC members and friends designed to contribute to faith formation and developemnt.  Choirs for four-year-olds through adults, Confirmation Ministry classes, Bible study, Alcoholics Anonymous, and one of many weekly opportunities to visit the Food Bank are all wrapped around a fellowship meal at which individuals and families of all descriptions gather for a nutritious dinner and vibrant conversation.  The dinner is at 6:00 p.m. and adult and children’s individual meals or semester-long meal tickets are available for purchase.

At the conclusion of the children’s classes and activities, the young people of the parish, parish leaders, and available parents gather on the Sanctuary steps for a brief but inspiring abbreviated service of Evening Prayer.  The lights are low, the music mellow, and the intent is to send chidren home well-nourished on food and faith and ready for bed.
