We Honor Sponsors
and Catechists of The WAY
We take time to
honor the many members of our congregation who are currently sponsoring
members of The WAY and their catechists.
Sponsors and catechists are the backbone of The WAY process. Without
them, this powerful process of faith formation would not exist.
Catechists serve as small group leaders. At every WAY gathering they
shepherd a group of 6-8 candidates and sponsors through Bible Study,
reflection and prayer.
Sponsors are congregation members who volunteer to spend nearly a year
walking alongside people who are preparing for baptism or affirmation of
baptism. Sponsors faithfully attend Way gatherings, participate in
small group study and reflection, pray regularly for their candidates and
stand with them during the many Rites that occur during the Way
process. Many candidates comment about the power and strength they feel as
sponsors place their hands upon the candidates shoulders as the entire
congregation prays for them. Another frequent comment is how impressed the
candidates are that sponsors and catechists devote so much time and energy
on their behalf.
Sponsors and catechists alike find The WAY to be an important part of
their faith life. Even life-long Lutherans often express gratitude for the
richness of this experience in their own life of faith and devotion.
We
honor these people and all who have served before them for the ministry they
have provided to those who are on The WAY 2002-2003
